This dish is found mainly in and around Uwajima. Fish is mashed in a mortar, mugimiso (miso made from barley or rye and soybeans) is added. The mixture is roasted, mixed with stock and served over mugimeshi (rice cooked with barley). A favorite home cooked meal.
