The view from Tokyo Dai-ichi hotel in Matsuyama. It is quiet yet impressive. The castle is well preserved because it was never in any battles. The castle hill was originally two hills that were filled in to create the one hill as it stands today. This was done during the construction period in the early 1600's.

Descending Katsuyama Hill
Going up and down the Castle Hill is free if you want to walk. You can take the ropeway or chairlift if you want an easier form of ascent or descent. The chairlift is the best if you enjoy the feeling of being out there.

Tsutsui Gate
View of Matsuyama from on top of Katsuyama Castle Hill. There is a popular burger in Japan called MOS Burger. MOS stands for Mountain, Ocean and Sea.

Tsutsui Gate. It is the second gate to enter the castle grounds and is considered one of the first lines of defense. There is a "hidden" gate that castle defenders can exit and encounter the enemy outside Tsutsui gate.

Inside Tsutsui gate.
