Yakushi-ji Temple

Built in the 7th century, Yakushi-ji was one of the Seven Great Temples of Nara and is head of the Hosso sect of Buddhism. Founded 680; completed 698; moved to Nara 718; Toindo rebuilt 1285; Genjo Sanzo founded 1981

Japanese roof tiles are something else. I take notice of them at the Temples but also in the homes people live in. This Temple has a large complex. The day we visited there were quite a few student groups visiting. I wish I could have photographed the interiors but that is not allowed in most of the Temples and Shrines we visited.
